"Breaking" a horse is an old-fashioned term commonly meaning to "break a horses spirit" using fear and intimidation.
If you attempt to "break" a horse rather than train a horse, you might succeed despite your disservice to the horse. But the chances are you'll ruin a potentially great horse making him spooky, unmanageable and lacking in trust. This is reprehensible by it's very nature. A horse can easily become a willing partner with a little kindness compassion and patience.
Nicola and Brannagh 8 year old mare
...hacked her out with a friend and their horse and she was great and did some work in the school, also great. At the weekend we did our first solo hacks and she looked around a little and was a bit jumpy to start but after a few canters through the woods, along a loch and up a wee winding path, she was great...we no longer have any issues with her being sticky...
So huge thanks for everything you did with Brannagh.
Best wishes Nicola (& Brannagh) |
